Artist's Biography
Born in Tokyo, Ms. Matsushita lived, worked, and painted in Washington, D.C. area for more than two decades before moving to California, where she maintained a studio. She now works in Reston, VA. She received an M.A. in the Humanities from the University of New York in Buffalo where she combined her studies in the Arts, Literature, and Philosophy. She actively exhibited her paintings in galleries in Manhattan and abroad until 1970 when she took an extended sabbatical to devote time to her family. In 1987, she resumed painting full time. She is an avid student of English, Spanish, and Japanese poetry, and paints in abstract forms to express the emotions stated in these written words. Deeply influenced by far eastern calligraphy, she uses brushstrokes with "relaxation and tension" to convey her feelings.
